Our Initiatives

Hunting Park Warriors Youth Development (HPWYD) is a nonprofit organization based in Philadelphia, PA, established in 1994. It aims to foster character development, teamwork, job skills, and self-sufficiency among youth aged 8-18 in the community. The organization operates with a vision to improve the quality of life for urban poor youth, particularly those in PHA Housing developments.

Mentoring Programs

HPWYD utilizes mentoring programs and sports as common denominators to establish trusting relationships between youth and adult mentors. These relationships aim to guide youth toward positive life paths and develop a positive self-image.

Educational Support

The organization provides school support and visitation programs, tutorial programs, and after-school tutoring services to help students improve their academic skills and prepare for higher education.

Athletics

HPWYD engages youth in recreational programs and athletic competitions, which not only promote physical health but also teach interpersonal skills, behavioral modification, and strategic planning. Some participants have received athletic and academic scholarships through the program.

Violence Prevention

HPWYD believes in treating violence as a public health epidemic and emphasizes prevention through cultural changes that promote hope and positive visions for young people. It offers conflict resolution, anger management, and violence prevention curricula to schools.
